Vibri Media and Reliance Entertainment in Sep 2017 announced the making of a film with the team that had won the 1983 Cricket World Cup. They will star Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, who led to the victory at the 1983 following his own good judgement when no one else believed in him.

83 movie release date
Initially scheduled for a theatrical release on 10th April 2020, it was later postponed due to the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic.
The movie is slated to be released on Christmas 2020.

With the indefinite postponement of the most awaited sports movie of the year, speculations about its online release rose high and the bidding war, to purchase it by the OTT platforms, was even higher.
However, inspite of record-breaking offers by the OTT platforms, team 83 clarified that it was willing to wait out the pandemic situation and then release it in theatres.
